What’s the Best (and Worst) Christmas Gift You’ve Ever Received?

 In Blog

A Twitter friend just posed this question to her followers:

What’s the worst Christmas present you’ve ever received?

I could answer that immediately: mini candy bars. Um, that’s not so bad, you may be thinking. Here’s why it was terrible.

The crash that took my sight, crushed all my facial bones AND knocked almost all my teeth out was less than three months in the past. Jaws wired shut, having to inject liquid into my mouth with a syringe was the only way (other than a feeding tube) I could get any nutrition. Candy bars were like rubbing proverbial salt in the proverbial wound.

So, started thinking of the inverse of that. What’s the best gift ever? That’s a lot, lot harder to remember. I’m sure some people have gotten engaged and the ring was the best present ever. Or someone who received a car or a house, but I don’t have one, ginormous memorable Christmas presents. I’ve gotten lots of stuff over the years, most all of it I love, but to think of “the best”…tough one.

Why is this? Why is it so much harder to remember something good than something bad? Does negativity make a deeper scar on our soul than when something is good and our spirits soar? Just an interesting thought game.

So, what are the best things you’ve ever received? And, of course, the worst? Let me know in the comments section below!
