Meetings Are Toxic

 In Blog

The title of this post comes from a biz book I read about how to drastically overhaul your workplace to increase efficiency. And, for the most part, I agree.

Of course, not every meeting is toxic. And, every once in a great while, something actually gets accomplished in a meeting. As much of an extrovert as I am, as much as I love human connection and interaction, I still think the best way to get information from one person to another is not through a meeting. Enough said.

Now, I just read a tweet from a business consultant, Sam Chand, who gives me something thought provoking every day. His tweet simply said:

“Do you have who’s got good news meetings?”

Initial thought? No, meetings are toxic!

But, we are humans and we desire to be in relationships with other humans. By setting aside time to share our joys and accomplishments, it gives everyone an opportunity to feel connected, be inspired and feel a part of a team progressing in it’s mission. My business is small and most of my employees are related to me. We go to dinner together, watch movies together and work together. Our dynamic is a little different, but I think I want to try to implement this time for good news meetings and see how it goes.

We’re all working towards the same goal after all!
